Frequently asked questions

Everything people actually ask, grouped by what you're trying to do.

Listings

What do I need to submit a product?

A name, one line on what it does, a working link and at least one category. Everything else — screenshots, the long description, your team — can be filled in afterwards.

What is the difference between a product and a launch?

The product is the permanent profile at its own URL. A launch is a dated campaign against it. Votes, comments and awards attach to the launch; the profile keeps them all and outlives every campaign.

How often can I launch the same product?

One major launch every 90 days. A real new release or a new platform earns one; a minor update does not consume it.

Can I schedule a launch for later?

Yes. Pick a date and it sits on the upcoming board until it goes live on its own, at the time you chose, in the timezone you chose.

Can I change the date once it is set?

Up to a point. Repeated changes are limited, because a date that keeps moving is a notification people learn to ignore.

Does my listing expire?

No. It stays listed and stays rankable — votes keep counting, the thread stays open, and any badge it won stays on it. Nothing is archived because a day ended.

Voting and ranking

Do I need an account to vote?

Yes. Requiring an account is the only anti-fraud measure that actually works, and it is why the numbers on this board mean anything.

How many times can I vote for one launch?

Once. The database enforces it, so a double submit or a race cannot produce two.

Can I take a vote back?

Any time. The total is recounted from the votes themselves rather than adjusted up and down, so it can never drift.

Is there a limit on how fast I can vote?

20 a minute per account. It exists to stop scripted voting, not to slow down anyone browsing normally.

How are ties broken?

The launch that went live earlier wins. Ordering is fully deterministic, so the board does not reshuffle itself between two page loads.

Do promoted listings affect the ranking?

No. Paying doesn't change a single vote, and votes are the only thing that decides rank. What it changes is where a listing is shown — pulled out of the ranked feed into a fixed slot, so it never bumps a free listing out of a position it earned. Its actual standing, on the leaderboard and for an award, is still counted on votes alone, and it carries a label wherever it appears.

Awards and badges

When are awards decided?

After the period has closed — never during it. A result that could still move is not a result.

Can a published award change later?

Only if staff adjust it, for example after removing fraudulent votes. When that happens the verification page says so and gives the reason. Nothing is changed quietly.

What is the badge?

An SVG you can embed on your own site. It carries no JavaScript, it is cached at the edge, and it links back to a page that proves the claim.

Does the badge cost anything?

No.

Links and traffic

Do I get a followed link?

From your product page, yes — once the product is verified. Board rows are nofollow, because a listing anyone can create is not something we can vouch for.

Do you sell links?

No. Promoted slots are nofollow and sponsored on every surface. Selling followed links is what gets directories penalised, and that would destroy the value of every page here including yours.

Can I see the traffic you send me?

Yes. Every outbound link carries a UTM tag naming the surface it came from, so it shows up in your analytics as AlphaShot rather than as direct.

How do I get verified?

Prove you control the domain. It is free and it is the only thing that changes whether your link is followed.

Ownership and moderation

Who can edit my listing?

You, anyone you add to the product team, and staff. Roles are explicit: someone who can edit a listing cannot necessarily manage billing or remove members.

Can I claim a product someone else submitted?

Yes, by verifying you control its domain. Claiming transfers the ability to edit, not the votes or the history.

Why was my submission rejected?

Usually a dead link, a product that is not actually available yet, or a duplicate of a listing that already exists. You will get the reason.

How do I report something?

Every listing and comment has a report control, and reports go to a human.

You published a comparison page about my product. Can I fix it?

Every comparison and alternatives page has a "suggest a correction" link, open to anyone, signed in or not. Checkable facts only — a price, a plan, a platform. A person reads every one.

Can a moderator edit my comment?

No. A moderator can hide a comment; nobody can rewrite what you said and leave your name on it.

Money

Is AlphaShot free?

Your account is free, and so is listing a product. Promotion and advertising are the only things you pay for.

What can I actually pay for?

Promotion — a labeled slot above the feed, in the sidebar, or woven into the board. It buys attention and nothing else.

Can I pay to win an award?

No — paying doesn't add a single vote, and an award is decided purely on votes cast in the period. A promoted listing competes for one on exactly the same footing as a free one.
